CLI is callers line identification. You can see the number of caller on your phone before attending.
But I was surprized to know this facility on internet. What does this means?
ISPs (Internet Service Providers) give us this facilty. And if we get then our username and password is protected from unauthorized use.
Because internet will connect from our phone number and not from any other phone number. So then if one get our username and passsword he/she cannot use it (Alas!)

CLI-W Hide or Show Number
If network provide you this facility then you can hide your number from user you are going to make a call even if he/she has CLI facility. 

The telephone sets enabled with CLI are labeled as FSK phone sets.

But many people even do not know these facilities.

Voice Mail / Divert Calls / Call forward
For example voice mail service is free on most of the cellular companies but nobody is using it and even people dont know about this free facility. If you activate your voice mail service in one/more of the following conditions then the person making call to you will hear a pre-recorded message to record his message and an SMS will be sent to you that some one has recorded a message for you. So you cannot miss any important message even if your phone is busy or you are out of network.



You can divert your calls to another phone number instead of your voice mail service, to divert calls your calls to any other number then type that number instead of 123 (your own number) type (number on which you want to divert)
To divert and activate voice mail as well as, type 123 (number on which you want to divert) If you are a mobilink user then you can even retrieve your message from simple landlines telephone by an easy way.
It is a very great facilty in my opinion
This facility is also available at land lines, for example on PTCL

Bluetooth™ and Infrared™
Many people have integrated Infrared™ in their mobile phones sets but few know the use of this great facility.
It is not dependend on network so one can use these devices (mostly intigrated in their mobile phones) to exchange files (themes, pictures, melodies, sounds, games) without expenditure of money. Infrared™ uses infra red communication. To exchange data by infrared™ you just have to align the infrared™ ports of two mobiles and activate infrared™ function and then send option of one phone can send anything desired within few seconds.
Bluetooth™ is much more advanced than infrared™, it uses two way short-wave communication, and it can exchange data at a distance of even 10 meters and you can even play multiplayer games by this great intigrated facility without expenditure of money.

Even again people dont know about this facility.
Using this you can receive a call even when your phone is busy with some one else.
It means two calls at a time one you are talking and one on hold.
This facility is also available at landlines and even I was astonish to know that an internet call can also be with held if you have a V.92 or better modeme and it is called net on hold.
Is it not great?

Call Conference
When you are busy in a call and another comes you can join two of them (unlike call waiting where you put one call on hold) and in this way it will become a conference and three of you people can talk togather with eachother.
In this way you can join upto five calls (like during three person conference, you make another call to another person and so on) Also available at land lines

Missed Call Alert (MCA)
Missed Call Alerts is a unique, beneficial and all time effective service that notifies you about calls that you did not answer voluntarily, or when you were out of the coverage area, did not have call waiting or when your handset was powered off. The notification is sent in the form of an SMS containing the number, date and time of the party that was trying to reach you. This service also helps you to make informed decisions about whom to call back. Missed Call Alerts service is for all kind of users, looking for better communication tool.

Restrict calls / Call Barring
You have five options to restrict calls. It is good when you have roaming on incoming calls so you can restrict them.
Options are

1. All outgoing calls
2. outgoing international
3. outgoing when international roaming
4. All incoming
5. Incoming when roaming

Code Barring (STD / non-STD / ISD)
Similar facility to restrict calls is free on landlines is to make your telephone line STD so that no one can make a phone call out of city even he/she cut the phone line and attach a new phone set on the pathway. In this way you can restrict your phone of being used unauthirozed.

Alarm Clock / Wake up Facility
You have to wake up at 7am but your brother has to wake up at 9am but you have only one alarm clock then why you dont have this facility.
You can have many alarms on your telephone land line and much more is that this facility is free to activate, but one local call charges apply for each alarm.

Hot Line
Lift the handset of landline phone and it will automatically dial a pre-defines number after waiting 5 seconds.
This facility is only good if you get it free (Oh yes)

Abbreviated Dialing
Dial a short number (single digit) to get desired number. A maximum of 10 such numbers can be registered.
But this is not so good facility because many phone sets come with memory and save 10 phone numbers and can dial by two touchs. However if you get it free then its good to save the long numbers of prepaid calling cards.

Don't Disturb
Activating of this facility allows customers not being disturbed for a predetermined time for all incoming calls. The caller will get a pre-recorded message.
This facility is good for you but very bad for others who call you.

Absent Customer
A customer with this facility may inform the calling person about his absence. This calling person will get an announcement or a special tone.
It is good to give him a special tone than announcement

Other facilities
Prepaid cards of Internet, Landlines and mobiles are available in two types. One those which we have to keep always and enter its number again and again on making every call, benefit is that we can use them from anywhere. Second those which once we enter are transfered to our balance, benefit is that no fear of theft.
UAN, everybody know its Universal Access Number which don't need any national or international codes to remember. Many offices located in different cities have a single UAN and when a person makes a call it connects to nearest office. It looks like 111-125125 but one thing people dont know is that the other city is accessed by city code like (042) 111-125125
All numbers starting with 0800 are regarded as toll free numbers, which means no cost to call them. (But some of them have special costs and give gambling offers)

VPN means virtual private network. It can be used to make a LAN between those PCs which are located far away within a city or out of city. PRS means Premium Rate service 0900. It is connected to a voice recognizer (voice to text) computer.

Here are few terms

GSM = Global System for Mobile Communication
WAP = Wireless application protocol
GPRS = General packet radio service
SIM = Subscriber Indentifying Module
CDMA = Code Division Multiple Access


Internet conection (data transmission) of GSM mobiles is called GPRS.
There are differnce between GPRS WAP and GPRS Internet.
In older days WAP sites were made in WML (wireless markup language) which do not support colours and present text and background in two colours. It requires WAP 1.1 browser. Many coloured and all black and white mobiles suport it.
But now things are changing and GPRS also uses cHTML (compact HTML) websites which are just like HTML websites on internet and have diffenent text and background colours. It requres WAP 2.0 browser support.
I have made two GPRS websites one is WML and one new cHTML. Both of them contain hundreds of coloured and black & white pictures. Also there are monophonic, polyphonic and mp3 ringtones.
